World Heritage by Bike at Bitter en Zoet in Veenhuizen

What we offer

World Heritage by Bike

Drenthe has some of the most beautiful cycling paths in the Netherlands, and UNESCO World Heritage Veenhuizen is right in the middle of it. This package combines three nights' accommodation, daily dinners, and two days of cycling through an unparalleled landscape.

By bike, you see Veenhuizen as it was intended: the straight avenues, the monumental buildings, the open landscape that has hardly changed in over a century. Out and about during the day, dinner in the evening with a 3-course meal, and then rest in a comfortable Deluxe room.

Cycling the Colonies of Benevolence

Veenhuizen was built on a grid of dead straight avenues, institutions and farms. By bike you see that pattern best: from the health cluster to Norg, past the old institutions and over the dykes of the Fochteloerveen.

From the hotel you can ride routes of 25 to 60 kilometres, mostly on quiet cycle paths. We prepare a route for you and make sure coffee or a drink is waiting when you return.

  • Routes of 25 to 60 kilometres from the hotel
  • Overnight stay including extensive breakfast
  • Packed lunch to take along
  • Bike hire in the village, e-bikes available

Combine with a longer stay

Cyclists often book this package together with the 2 or 3 night special: out on the road by day, dinner in the monument at night and back in the saddle the next morning.

Along the way you can stop at Maallust, the De Slokkert brook valley or the viewpoints of the Fochteloerveen.
