Green Key is the international eco-label for sustainable businesses in the hospitality sector. Companies with this certificate do everything possible to minimize the impact on nature and the environment. The label has different levels, and we are proud that Bitter en Zoet has held the highest status for years: Gold.
This means that we go beyond what the law requires. We are regularly strictly audited on more than 100 criteria, ranging from energy saving and water consumption to social involvement and the origin of our food.
Why do we consider this so important?
Veenhuizen is a place with a story. For more than a century, the care for people was central here in the Kolonie van Weldadigheid. We see it as our mission to continue that care, but in the broadest sense of the word: care for our guests, for our employees, and for the earth.
Our sustainable vision is reflected everywhere:
Local & Organic: Our kitchen works according to the principles of Dutch Cuisine. We source our products from the North and our own vegetable garden. Organic is the standard for us, not the exception.
Social heart: We collaborate with local organizations such as Groenzorg Norg and offer a learning place to anyone who deserves a chance in the labor market.
Invisible choices: Behind the scenes, we save water, use only LED lighting, and eco-friendly cleaning products.
