Our most spacious room, in the historic staff houses
Every Deluxe room has its own character. Some are on the ground floor with a garden view, others on the first floor up a staircase. Room 15 is the largest of them all: a space on the second floor of Plichtgevoel, under the atmospheric beams of the old roof.
The names of the houses are no coincidence. Toewijding was the home of the medical director, Bitter en Zoet the pharmacy and later a civil servants' house, Plichtgevoel the home of the pharmacist and later the head of nursing. You can still feel that history in every detail.
What to expect
- Bathroom with toilet, bathtub and separate shower
- Free Wi-Fi, flatscreen tv, telephone and desk
- Free parking, with 2 charging points
- Historic details preserved in every room
- Extensive breakfast buffet included
Who is the Deluxe room for?
The Deluxe room is our pick for couples who want a few days of genuine quiet in Drenthe. You get more floor space than in the Comfort room, a bathtub next to the separate shower and room to settle in after a walk through the Colonies of Benevolence.
Because the rooms are spread over three listed service houses, no two are alike. Would you prefer a ground floor room, a garden view or the large attic room under the old beams? Let us know when you book.
- Largest room type in the hotel, sleeps 2
- Bathtub and separate shower in the private bathroom
- Free parking at the door, including charging points
- Breakfast buffet always included in the room rate
Staying next to the National Prison Museum
Bitter en Zoet sits in the health cluster of Veenhuizen, walking distance from the National Prison Museum and at the heart of UNESCO World Heritage Colonies of Benevolence. Park the car and leave it: the village, the avenues and the walking routes start at the front door.
Fochteloerveen nature reserve, the De Slokkert brook valley and the cycling routes through the World Heritage site are all within a fifteen minute drive. A Deluxe room combines well with a two or three night package including dinner.
