Vegetable Garden at Bitter en Zoet in Veenhuizen

What we offer

Vegetable Garden

Veenhuizen used to be self-sufficient, and we continue that spirit. The vegetable garden and orchard daily supply the kitchen with fresh herbs, vegetables, and fruits, organically grown without artificial fertilizers or pesticides.

Every home in Veenhuizen used to have its own vegetable garden. The medical director had an herb garden full of medicinal plants on the spot where the parking lot is now. That tradition of self-sufficiency is in our genes here.

The orchard has 14 fruit trees with old varieties: apples, pears, plums, quinces, medlars, and a walnut tree. The garden is maintained by GroenZorg Norg and is freely accessible. If they are working, the gardeners are happy to explain everything that grows and blooms.
