A large part of the Slokkert was normalized in the 1960s, but since 2012, the stream has been re-meandered. The result is a beautiful, diverse nature reserve that is recovering and flourishing. There's a good chance you'll encounter roe deer there.
The stream is part of the Peizerdiep system and has an open connection to the Wadden Sea via the Reitdiep. Special: in the streambed, you can discover a 4000-year-old peat road via a geoscientific experience point.
