Walking and Cycling

Veenhuizen and the surrounding nature offer endless possibilities. Walking through the UNESCO World Heritage site, cycling through Fochteloërveen, or simply reading in the garden. From Bitter & Zoet, you're quickly everywhere.

In Veenhuizen, five marked routes have been set out, varying from 2 to 7 kilometers. An overview map is available at the reception.

Slokkert route (white, 7 km): along old beech avenues, the Spanish Cemetery, and the stream valley of the Slokkert

Sterrebos route (yellow, 6.5 km): along the Eikenlaan to the cemetery and the Sterrebos

Gestichtsroute (blue, 2 km): around the former Second Institution and the Hospital

Ambachtsroute (red, 3.5 km): along the Maallust complex, the power station, and the Craft Cluster

Fochteloërveen route (green): through the forest and along the edges of Fochteloërveen

Fochteloërveen itself also has its own marked route of 1.4 km, starting from the parking lot on Fochteloërveenweg.

Drenthe has been voted a five-star cycling province, and you can tell. The junction network is excellently signposted. The nearest cycling junction is number 78.
